Introduction And History of CSSA Sarawak

The idea of forming an Association of local computer firms was first mooted in Sibu in October, 1998. Application was then made to the Registrar of Societies for the formation of “Persatuan Komputer Sarawak” (Computer Association Sarawak) on 23.11.1998. The Registrar of Societies requested change of name of Association to Persatuan Jualan & Perkhidmatan Komputer Sibu (Computer Sales & Services Association Sibu) on 13.3.1999 as all protem committee members list submitted are from Sibu. Amended documents were then submitted on 6.4.1999 and the Registrar of Societies approved the registration of “Persatuan Jualan & Perkhidmatan Komputer Sibu” on 6.10.1999 vide Registration No. 1267.

The 1st Inaugural Meeting was held on 17.1.2000. Mr. Ting Heng Kiu was elected as the 1st Chairman of the Association for 2000 & subsequently for 2001 at the AGM held on 11.2.2001.

At the 1st Annual General Meeting held on 11.2.2001, it was resolved to change the name of our Association to “Persatuan Jualan & Perkhidmatan Komputer Sarawak” to allow computer dealers throughout Sarawak to join our Association. The change of name was necessary as we need computer firms throughout Sarawak (not just Sibu) to join our Association to fight for our interests, in particulars on the sudden announcement by the Government to allow POS Malaysia Bhd (through Odasaja ( M ) Sdn Bhd) and BSN only to handle purchase of PC by EPF members through EPF withdrawal scheme in December 2000. A petition was made to Government through our Association to allow computer firms to sell computers to EPF members under EPF withdrawal scheme on 16.1.2001.

Through much efforts, we managed to team up with Unimaya Bhd (appointed by BSN) to sell computers to EPF members under EPF withdrawal scheme but unfortunately the scheme was stopped by the Government in late 2001 due to misuse of EPF withdrawal scheme.

The 2nd Annual General Meeting was held on 2.3.2002. Mr. Wong Chi Tieng was elected as Chairman of year 2002. He then proceeded to re-write the whole Rules & Constitutions of our Association to accommodate, among others, the election of office bearers for 2 years' term, the setting up of branches and allow membership by affiliated association.

The New Rules & Constitution of the Association was approved by Registrar of Societies on 17.6.2003 and application was then made to set up branches. The setting up of Sibu Branch and Miri Branch was approved by Registrar of Societies on 27.12.2003.

The Central Committee

The 1st Central Committee (2003–2004) was formed in March 2003 and Mr. Wong Chi Tieng was elected as Chairman of 1st Central Committee.

As the Chairman of CWC is for a term of 2 years and to be elected by rotation among Chairman of the branches and affiliated association, Mr. Alex Jong Choon Teck, Chairman of Miri Branch (2005-2006) was elected as Chairman of CWC on second term (2005-2006).

Mr. Michael Kho Chung Kang, Chairman of KCBA (2006-2008) was elected as Chairman of CWC for third term (2007-2008).

Mr. Wong Chi Tieng, Chairman of Sibu Branch for year (2009-2010) was elected as Chairman of CWC fourth term (2009-2010).
